Frequently asked questions.

Got questions? We have answers! Here’s the most common questions we get asked each day.

What can team members see and do?

You choose each team member’s access separately for four areas:

  • Catalog: none, view, or edit

  • Tools: none, view, or edit (edit includes sending splits and applying for Official Artist Channels)

  • Analytics: none or view

  • Financial: none or view

Team members can never upgrade your plan, manage your payment details, or buy add-ons like Content ID. Only the team owner can do those. Give Financial access only to people you trust.

What is Spotify Discovery Mode, and does it cost anything?

Discovery Mode makes it more likely that Spotify surfaces your tracks in its radio and autoplay sessions, when listeners are open to new music. There is no upfront cost and Spare Music charges nothing to take part. Spotify applies a 30% marketing fee only to streams that come from radio or autoplay during an active campaign. Searches, playlists and library streams are paid at the full rate.

What is YouTube Content ID, and how do I get it?

YouTube Content ID matches your music against videos other people upload to YouTube, so you can claim and earn from their use of your tracks.

Content ID is included on the Artist Pro and Label plans. On the Free and Artist plans, you can buy it as an add-on.

Not every track qualifies. These aren’t eligible:

  • AI generated music

  • Cover songs

  • Sound-alikes

  • Karaoke versions

  • Production loops

  • Remasters

  • Compilations

  • Mashups

  • DJ mixes

  • Public-domain material

  • Non-exclusive or Creative Commons tracks

  • Content sold or licensed as royalty-free

How and when do I get paid?

We pay you automatically every month. You can choose how you get paid, including bank transfer, wire transfer, and PayPal.

You can also withdraw your balance at any time.

When will I see my first earnings?

Your first report usually arrives about 3 months after the release date of your first release. Stores take around 3 months to send us both their reports and the money.

Can I send cover songs to stores?

Yes, with a license. Open the EasySongLicensing tool in your dashboard and request a license for each cover. Requests usually take 1 to 2 business days.

When you create your release, credit the original songwriters and publishers.

Is there a limit on how many releases I can upload?

No, you can upload as many releases as you like. On the Free and Artist plans, there’s a limit on how many can be in review at once.

Do I have to pay to send my music to stores?

No. On the Free plan there’s no upfront fee. Instead, we keep a share of your royalties.

Paid plans let you keep more of your royalties and come with more features. Our pricing page shows what you keep on each plan.

On any plan, add your payment and tax details before we send your release to stores.

How do I split royalties with collaborators, and what does it cost them?

Add collaborators to your release and set each one’s share. We pay each of them directly and give them their own statements, so you don’t need a spreadsheet.

Collaborators don’t need a paid plan to accept a split, and we don’t charge them a fee to collect their earnings.

Can I see detailed analytics and reports on the performance of my music?

Yes. Track daily streams by store and country, drill into every statement, and see revenue by release and split from your dashboard.

Can I retain the rights to my music while using your service?

Yes. You keep 100% of the rights to your music, we only distribute it and collect royalties on your behalf.

Can Spare Music help migrate a large catalog?

Yes. Bulk upload handles big catalogs, and our team can walk the migration with you — email [email protected] with the size of your catalog.
